Facebook’s Meta fined for breaches of Italian gambling ads ban

Meta Platforms (META.O), the parent company of Facebook, faces fines in Italy for violating the ban on advertising gambling, making Facebook’s Meta the latest tech firm to be penalized.

Meta Platforms (META.O), which oversees Facebook, has been fined in Italy for violating the prohibition on gambling advertising. The communications watchdog AGCOM announced on Friday that D9art is facing a fine of 5.85 million euros ($6.45 million) for profiles and accounts on Facebook and Instagram. The penalty is also linked to sponsored content promoting betting or games offering cash prizes.

As of now, there has been no immediate response from D9art.

Earlier in the month, AGCOM imposed fines on Alphabet Inc’s (GOOGL.O) YouTube and Amazon’s (AMZN.O) Twitch for similar violations of the gambling advertising ban. YouTube and Twitch received fines of 2.25 million euros and 900,000 euros, respectively. ($1 = 0.9069 euros).
